    Spare Wheel

71 with a black rim, not rallye type. I am the original owner and trying to see if somehow I got skunked by the dealer.

Rim # K191 before the valve stem 22 after. Everyone tells me it should be a ralley type, Not.

      Re: Spare Wheel

      Jim,
I never checked it when I drove it out of the dealer. I was so happy to
finally get my car. Within a week or two, I had a flat and that was the
tire and rim I found at 4am on my way to work.

        Kenneth,

        K191 22 corresponds to January 22nd 1969 or 1979.

Rob thanks for the reply. It's what came with my car so I guess I have to live with it. I am looking for a Flight Judging in the future so, add it to my to do list.

Remember, for judging only the spare "needs" to have the date code that matches the car since it's the only date that might be judged. The other 4 don't, as the codes are hidden by the trim rings. So, any AZ-coded Corvette rally will be fine, as long as you use one of your date coded rims (which are likely currently on the car) as the spare rim.

That should allow you to use an old rally until you find a date coded one.

                Kenneth--
I think ou got hosed by your dealer like many midyear guys did when they bought knock-offs and only got 4 plus a mis-matched spare. My 2nd-owner 71 LT-1 convertible still has the original blackwall spare with all the markings, and with the 5th wheel dated the same as the other 4.
                Regards,
                Mike

                  Thanks Mike,

I was afraid of that, now I need to look for a wheel. How do I decipher the code? I have an old GM parts book but it does not have wheels covered. I will check the others and go from there.

                  Regards,
                  Ken

                    Kenneth-----

There should be a 2 alpha character code (e.g "AZ") stamped on the rim somewhere. Usually, it's close to the valve stem hole. Without this code I don't know of any way to positively ID the wheel. The fact that you have a stamped "K" on the wheels indicates that the wheel is a Kelsey-Hayes wheel (although the "K" actually denotes the Romulus manufacturing plant and not the "K" in Kelsey). I've never seen one of these that didn't have a stamped wheel ID code.
