    1967 Tank Build Sheet

The build sheet that was on my gas tank (1967 VIN 5841 - 12/23/66 delivery to Friendly Chevrolet, Springfield, IL) has an ink line made with a pen through the N89 Bolt-on wheel option. At the bottom of the sheet is writing in pen that says R/N 525 - af. The car was ordered with the optional aluminum wheels, red line tires... I have seen another 1967 tank sheet two years ago at the Florida NCRS winter meet that had the same thing.

In talking with the original owners mom and brother, they think the car was delivered with rally wheels.

    Two questions:

    1. Is anyone familar with notations on the tank sheet - could GM have been out of stock on the wheels? I doubt that the guy that ordered the car would have requested the change - he was stationed in Vietnam and came home to take delivery and then sold the car nine months later...

    2. I have an original set of bolt-ons and would like to have the car judged with these wheels. Would that be a problem given the build sheet?

    Thank you - Jeff Cornwell

NCRS does not judge build sheets. If you have five original bolt on aluminum wheels and you feel they will judge well, go for it. Put them on, dress it up, for everyone to see.

PS - My '69 build sheet has 2 items lined through and more standard items were substituted. But, that's the way it came according to the 1st owner from whom I bought the car.

As Kent said, the build sheet is not judged. If you have original bolt ons then you should not receive a deduction. You may need longer bolts for your spare tub to fit properly though.

Kent - thank you for the replies. Just to clarify - you are saying that the car was delivered with the standard items. Absent a change in the order by the dealer, do you think that Chevrolet had supply issues and that is why they made the change?

          Regards, Jeff

Hard to say for one item, Jeff. That was black leather interior crossed out and standard interior substituted. There might have been a supply problem to the line which caused this substitution. Who knows? The other was evidently ordered prior to supply to the line according to dates of avability that I've read in our research reports. White letter tires was crossed out and white line tires substituted. Now, here's the cavat, this car was found on the dealers lot. It was evidently not a customer's special order (guess on my part) since the first owner bought it off the lot. So, if it was a dealer's order, Chevrolet may have taken more liberties to get the car off the assembly line with substitutions. (just another SWAG)

Exactly. Any time a substitution was made at the plant, it was noted on the Corvette Order Copy (tank sticker), along with an RN# that authorized the change and corrected the plant's inventory records. It was ordered with N89 wheels, they weren't available, and it got rally wheels.
