    Does someone recondition original shocks

I was wondering if there are vendors who re-condition original C3 shocks. Does anyone have any info on vendors who do this?

I'm not aware of anyplace that rebuilds monotube shocks. Folks rebuild the old lever-type Houdaille and Armstrong shocks, but that's about it as far as I know.

      Brad:

There is a guy who recently began advertising in Hemmings in the CORVETTE PARTS Section that claims to rebuild shocks. I have no idea of his capability, but you may want to call and inquire.

Phone number is 913-268-5314. Address in Kansas.

Let us know if you use him and the results.

Thanks, He said that he basically cuts them open rebuilds with new Delco parts and re-welds them together. He quoted $150 per shock for fronts.

There is an ad in Hemmings for someone who rebuilds Delco, Armstrong, Houdaille, Girling and it says the housings are rebuilt, main shaft reground, new seals and gaskets, valving rebuilt. Apple Hydraulics in Calverton, NY 800-882-7753. Doesn't specify any years www.applehydraulics.com

In the past, I believe Apple did rebuild tubular shocks, so I checked their website when this question was first posted.

They make no mention of tubular shock rebuilding now...only the old lever action shocks for pre-WWII cars. I think that is what the Hemmings ad is describing. They have broadened their offerings to parts sales, and seem to have taken a slightly different business direction. They may have given up some of the services they once offered. Any rebuilder must have one of the original machines to make correct end cap welds, or you've not accomplished much by spending big bucks to rebuild originals.

It would probably be worth a call to inquire about current service of tubular shocks. I would confirm that they are doing the rebuild themselves, and not "farming it out" to another firm.

I called and was told that they only do the lever type.
