    Thank to All for the comments. Very much appreciated. Sounds as if this could get expensive but I'll check with Club members as to a shop that has both expertise and reasonable rates.

      Yes these alternative refrigerants will work, but they represent a major problem down the road. If repairs become necessary down the road, finding someone that can reclaim these will be a major problem. Many shops now test for the type of refrigerant you are using and if it is not R-12 or R-134a they will not work on them. They do not want to contaminate their equipment.

      NO automobile manufacter approves the use of these alternatives. Some use propane, which is flammable, as part of the mixture. Caveat emptor.

          These types of substitute refrigrants is why shops have had to spend thousand of dollars for freon identifiers. They do not want to contaminate a $400 plus dollar tank of of R12 freon on their reclaim/recycle machines with these products and who could blame them. This is why they will not touch them.
