    Interior Flight judging question

We have a 1972 LT1 that was recently Flight Judged at the Las Vegas NCRS Nationals. My question we have a Delco 78S replacement battery which we received the standard deduction. On top of that we full deductions for not having battery caps & ventilation hoses (originality 4 condition 3) Refer to page 4 Item 13 of the NCRS 1969-1972 Interior judging sheet. We I discussed the added deduction with the Interiors judge, his explanation was we should have correct battery caps & ventilation hoses in a bag with the Delco &8S battery.

Fred, did you escalate your question above the interior judge to '69-'72 team lead? If so what did that person say? Thanks!

      Fred,
The caps and hoses are a separate line item and if they are not present the judges would be required to take the full deduction. To meet the judging standard you would need to have the caps and hoses present even though your replacement battery does not use them. Hope that helps.

Yes, I discussed my understanding that I felt the standard deduction for a 78S Delco battery would negate the addition deductions for battery caps and hoses. I sense my post on this question have has a very senior NCRS judge inform me that the added deductions are correct. At present I have been unable to source OEM correct caps and hoses

By chance do you have a resource for the correct caps and hoses?

Hoses are available from the usual vendors.

I thought that caps used to be reproduced with the red half-circles on top. I don't see them in catalogs, so you might have to check with your friend David for real used ones. Current ones I can find listed on eBay don't have the markings.

I tried to find repro's 5 years ago but could not find anyone who sold them.
The only place who might have had them was the company who was making the repro batteries but they were not selling them separate from the repro battery.
I have NOS batteries for my cars so ended up tracking down and buying a pair of originals.

Seems strange to me, that we would significantly reduce our Standard Deduction Guideline for batteries to a minor deduction, and then give a full deduction on pieces of unobtanium.

And why should an owner carry battery caps/hose in a plastic bag?

I keep my caps and hoses in a plastic bag in the battery compartment to keep them clean. The plastic bag is not judged. One can keep them in any way they wish so long as they are available for judging.

These are not unobtanium, unless one wants them instantly. I have seen them on eBay and offered on the NCRS Facebook parts for sale site. Just keep looking. One might check with Dave Sulkowski (spelling???) as well. I would also expect some were for sale at Carlisle. One has to look at all the usual suspects. Sitting back and expecting them to show up magically at your door step is not how it will work.
