Who Manufactures the Best Spin-on Oil Filter Conversion Kit?

I have decided to convert my canister / cartridge style oil filter on my '66 327/350hp to a spin-on. This is, of course, a reversible process since the conversion kits are simply bolt-on. Which manufacturer of the spin-on oil filter conversion kits is the best based on quality of parts, ease of installation or any other aspect of the product that you deem important? I appreciate your opinions!

    Jeffery,
I have installed on my '67 L79 the Trans Dapt 1059 and have been very satisfied for over 12 years. I, also, use a Wix 51061 oil filter.

Leif, I also heard the WIX 51515 is good to use with that unit, thoughts.

These cross reference for a PH-8A on the Trans Dapt 1024 box are:

        Jeffery,
I have been following your previous post regarding the oil filter leak. I will give you my opinion on the issue and your potential switch to a spin on filter conversion. Firstly, I am the owner of a '65 fuelie so I, too, have a cannister style filter. I have changed oil several times and never had a problem with leaks. Also, about a hundred years ago, when I was a kid, I used to work at a gas station and we did many oil changes and service work. A number of the cars we serviced were Chevys with cannister filters. So, I've had a lot of experience in servicing cannister oil filter cars. The worst problem I encountered was when there were multiple gaskets installed (stacked). We always replaced the gaskets and always removed the old gaskets. When I encountered the multiple gasket situation it was usually a bitch to remove the bottom one as it was very brittle. Anyway, once again, I never had a leak issue when done. I don't know if you found your issue but I suspect the cannister was not seated on the gasket and was offset a bit and up against the block (metal to metal). If it was me, I'd try again as I think the cannister was/is pretty foolproof if done right. Back in the day I did do a conversion and I believe I used genuine Chevrolet parts although I don't recall for sure. I doubt you can get new Chevy parts but Mr. Gasket makes a conversion kit. Agree with Terry above and Joe's post in your other thread- don't correct an installation mistake by changing hardware. Canisters offer advantages including more filter surface area and the ability to inspect the media. I've successfully changed many of them so they can't be that difficult. :-) Just make sure the old gasket is out and the new one is seated properly. And as suggested earlier, always check for leaks upon start up.

            Harry,
I edited my original post. The Trans-Dapt 1024 has a 3/4" threaded pipe and the filters you list should work with that adapter. The Trans-Dapt 1059 that I have on my L79 utilizes a 13/16" threaded pipe and uses a Wix 51060, 51061 or 51069 filter. I use the 51061 because it is about 1" longer (bigger).

              Got it, thanks
