Spoke with Tech Services at Pioneer and they said this ring gear is for the flywheel. Now on order.

Thanks. Nice to confirm my machine shop gave me the correct one. I've spent several hours researching the starter drive gear, the need to replace, how to replace, ... Once again I'm in the "while I'm in there" mode. If the engine always stops at the same place, resulting in worn teeth on the flywheel ring gear, then simply replacing the ring gear will give me another 30 years - I hope. I'll look at the drive gear when the starter emerges from storage (under the house).

The original starter drive was GM #1954842. After several intermediate supercessions, the last available drive was GM #10470757 which is now discontinued without supercession.

There should be plenty of NOS examples of either of the above on eBay at reasonable prices.

Thanks Joe. I'll check but the starter is probably a couple months from being needed. Trying to get new wiring harnesses installed and other things while the body is off. Yes, I'm doing this for the first time and it's slow going. Appreciate the help.
