Question on points deduction for dated parts

I have a Holley carburetor I'm researching and was wondering what the NCRS point deduction would be for incorrect date assuming everything else was correct. I did see an older post by John Hinkley (16 years ago) referencing a 20% deduction (about 3 points) for a carb date question.

    1970 Corvette LT-1 350 / 370HP / S/T
    GM # 3972121
    List # 4555
    Date # 3262

    Pri Metering Block - 6333 / 4555
    Sec Metering Block - 4519 / 4555

Date code based on the Holley website would lead me to December 1982 or 1992. The 1970-1975 Chevrolet by the Numbers book states "2" is 1972 (page 129).

Regardless of the above dates, this appears to be a correct over the counter service replacement carburetor for a 1970 Corvette LT-1 350 / 370HP / S/T

    Thanks
    Dennis

    1970 LT-1

CDCIF is for originality assesment. Each part is = 20%, so Date = 20% as John Hinckley said.

Dumb question- Is the deduction for date binary?... Either the part gets full credit or no credit?

To expand on what TM wrote, CDCIF represents the originality of the originality/condition matrix with CDCIF representing configuration, date, completeness, installation and finish. Thus a date inconsistent with engine assembly is a 20% deduction at minimum. There are the other originality elements as well and not to include condition, another item to be considered.

So it sounds like a NTP or a missng date is always a full deduct of the CDCIF date element. With Dennis' carburetor, it will either keep its 3 points if deemed okay, otherwise it earns a full deduction... no partial credits for date (like for a date 6 months and 1 day out...). Correct?

That's the "judgement" call left to the judges. Remember, experienced judges will look at a component in the context of the entire mechanical package. One day? Really? But yes...its typically 20% for a date out of range with the mechanical under consideration.

Generally Date is an easy one - either it fits or it doesn't.

The difficulty comes in Configuration - do you deduct for two incorrect screws on the carb when looking at the whole configuration...?
                  Some do; I do not.

Re: Question on points deduction for dated parts

In reading this thread, is a carburetor part that has a date code within 6 months of the engine date code considered correct as far as Judging goes with no points deducted? To ask this question differently, how far apart could the carburetor and engine date codes be during original assembly at the factory?
                    Thanks,
                    John.

                      John,

Good questions - here's my cut:
                      1. If the carb is the correct one for your application (you can't have a date-coded Rochester [or whatever] carb on an engine FOEM -equipped with a Holley), I believe 6 months is considered TFP (Typical Factory Production).
                      2. Is that to say older carbs that may have gotten overlooked in a parts crib or shipping rack/container for >6 months and got installed - yes. If so, though, expect a deduct unless you have very good documentation supporting the older date.
                      thx,
                      Mark
