The power brake booster and master cylinder went out on my C3 and I purchased a new Tuff Stuff booster with master cylinder on line. I received the booster with master cylinder but there were no instructions included in the box I received. There are other companies who offer new boosters and master cylinders and many of them require you to set the rod length going from the booster to the master by adjusting the rod end coming out of the booster. Usually a special H shaped gauge is used to do this and when done properly it will result in a gap between the contact point in the master cylinder to the rod coming out of the booster of .020 inches which is necessary for proper brake operation. Since there were no installation instructions included with my purchase I called and spoke with a technician from Tuff Stuff. He told me that the rod length from the booster to the master cylinder is set at their factory and to get proper operation out of their package I need to adjust the length of a threaded rod from the back of their booster to the fork which attaches to the brake pedal. This length should be determined by measuring the distance from the back of my original booster to the back of my original fork (which I reuse because one is not provided with their package). My original booster is about .250 inches narrower than the Tuff Stuff one so I should compensate by adding .250 inches to the dimension I measure. I have read favorable reports of the Tuff Stuff booster/master cylinder package when installed. Any thoughts or suggestions on the matter would be appreciated.
