Is there a way to adjust the wsw door on a 69?

    Guys,

I'm working on the wsw door, installing it after having it off for quite some time. After installing it I noticed it doesn't line up with the fenders quite right. It's been on the car for a year or so after body and paint was done for the resto and seemed to line up fine and the door would open and close without issue but then I took it off to work on the wipers and didn't get back to it for about 18 months. Now that I'm working on it again I just installed the wsw door and it doesn't line up with the fenders. It's only off by about 1/8" but its enough to keep the door from closing properly. Is there a way to tweak the alignment of this door?

    Mike,

Did you take the control assembly off? That is what the grill panel attaches to at 3 points with 2 screws each. There is also a stand alone grill bracket near center on drives side which should be lined up after you get the door to open and close correctly after securing the assembly in the right place. the assembly itself can be moved only a very little left to right and shimmed forward/back where it attaches to the firewall on either end. that's about all the adjustments I know of. I am assuming all the white bushings and washers are in place when you attach the door to the assembly at each end.

    Hope this helps..

      Mike,
The service manual has a description of the adjustments on page 12-47. Be very careful when trying to turn the screws since the screws are steel and the wiper door is aluminum and the screws may very well be frozen in there caused by dissimilar metal corrosion. If they have been out since your restoration, maybe they will turn. Don't force anything.

Thanks guys. No, I didn’t take the mounting mechanism off, only the door. I’ll look at the adjustment procedure and see if I can tweak it a little. Yes all the white washers are installed. Everything has been off and restored so it should be fairly easy to do. I only need a tiny bit of adjustment, like 1/8”.

I finally got back into the shop today and I can't find the wsw door adjustment procedure. I have the chassis service manual and the chassis overhaul manual, but I couldn't find it in either. Where exactly is it?

            Mike,
which way does the door need to be adjusted? up/down or side to side? If it is up or down that adjustment at the vacuum canister inside the boot. There is also a stop adjustment screw on each end at the windshield side. trying to send pic but this antiquated message part of this website is actin funny.

Yes it does need some up down adjustment but that's not what I need help with. It is currently about 1/8-1/4" too far over to the driver's side such that it hits the molding when it tries to go down. If I nudge it on the way down and let it settle then the door will close but the gaps are still 1-8-1/4" away from being optimally aligned. I just can't see a way to adjust it left or right, aside from a pry bar.

I don't seem to have those adjusting bolts on my 69. My wsw door mechanism is "free floating" in the cowl area and doesn't attach to anything in there. It's only point of attachment is to the anchor plate and bolts seen on the firewall. See the attached pics. Now that I'm looking at the AIM more closely, I think there is a missing bracket from each side of my wsw mechanism that is supposed to bolt there to provide some additional stability and perhaps some adjustability. See attached pic of the relevant section of the AIM. The bolts are part #'s 12 and 13.

Mike, the pic I sent is of my July 69 car.
Actually on your mechanism you can see the bolt hole where the bracket attaches to it and once the bracket is attached then another goes into the body that my pic has the arrow pointing at. bracket on each side. this is your issue your missing the brackets.
