Agree with you Mike. Tried to arrange transport for Sherri's car to Mobile, but had no luck. Had luck in another way though, one of our other Texas Chapter members has agreed to haul her car. At least it will get there without having to drive it.

Fellow Texas member Tim Gilmore connected me with Gene Barone, a NY member who asked Tim to inspect a C2 in Texas for him (a nice L79 which he purchased). Gene was gracious enough to drive an hour to look at this '93 for me. He gave his enthusiastic approval so I decided to get it. After spending four weeks trying to arrange transport (apparently NY to TX is not a popular route for carriers), last week I decided to fly from my Dallas home to Syracuse, and drive it home.

It still has its original GS-C tires so I ordered a set of tires from Tire Rack which are waiting for me in Syracuse. The originals will be shipped home via Greyhound (cheapest way I found).

I don't have the return route mapped out yet, but intend to avoid interstates and enjoy the back roads. My flight to NY is Monday... I'm so excited!

My sincere appreciation to Gene and Tim. Thank you for your help!

Mark, do the seat side bolsters pump up? If not, give me a call.

        Mark Congrats on the 40th!

I recently purchased nearly the twin to the 95 you did not end up purchasing earlier this year.

1994 6 speed DRM with 40k miles and Im having a blast with it!

C4's are a tremendous bang for the buck.

I'll look at a map and see if a visit would work. Current thinking is drive south from Syracuse to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Tail of the Dragon. You might be on the way. Thanks for the invitation!

            UOTE=Mark Francis (30800);916363]Hi Mark,

Luv that color on your 40th !

You have quite a drive ahead of you and maybe your route has already been planned – not sure how “slow” you want to take it, but here’s a few thoughts I had after reading your story…

If you’re tempted to take Mike McCagh up on his offer (and I would, because his place is spectacular – scenic-wise and Corvette-wise!), PA Route 45 would take you 86 miles from Mooresburg, PA (east end closest to Syracuse just off I-80) to Water Street (not far from Altoona). I always thought it was my favorite part of my drive from Pittsburgh to State College, PA (Penn State) when I was at school in the early ‘70s. It takes you diagonally northeast to southwest (from where you’d be coming) along the Appalachian Mountains (see link below). Spruce Creek (where a few of our Presidents have gone trout fishing) is a really nice stretch…you drive thru lots of small burghs and hamlets, but after all, this is the bowels of PA

If you do go back-roading in PA, make sure you’ve had enough coffee when you see the Deer Crossing signs – PA has LOTS of deer and they’re not very bright up here when it comes to crossing the highway.

Mike’s place would only be another hour+ south from Altoona (depending on what route you took).

Also, I have only been on part of PA Route 6, but it is touted as a well-known PA tourist destination.

Let us know how it goes and what route you took…

Most importantly, have a safe and enjoyable journey!

            Mark,

Thanks for the suggestion; sounds great. I'll check it on the map. And yes, I'm taking paper AAA maps with me.

Update: I tried to fly from DFW to Syracuse yesterday to pick up the Corvette. But after three gate changes and a five hour delay, I cried uncle and came back home. Today I learned that flight finally left at 1:12AM and arrived at 4:30AM. DFW is crazy with crowds of delayed travelers, and there's a multi-hour hold time when calling American Airlines for help.

I re-booked an early morning flight on Thursday thinking less chance of delay. We'll see. Stay tuned and wish me luck.

It's been a long time for me, but I took a train from Pittsburgh to Denver (1968)...pretty cool experience if you've never done a long train trip...

The cheapest train ticket from Dallas to Syracuse costs only $346, with Amtrak train company, on a 35h 4m trip duration.

anyhow, good luck however you get there!
                      thx,

Success! Yesterday I flew to Syracuse and picked up the car. Photos don't do it justice... it looks virtually perfect and even still has that distinctive C4 interior aroma. The car came with all the delivery documentation and also an never worn 40th Anniversary polo shirt and cap! The seller, and owner since 1994, is a great guy and new friend.

4th of July week isn't the best time to be on the road but I intend to take the back roads home and enjoy the journey. Wish me luck.

                                Re: I can't believe I'm doing this...

Well, the car stopped running on the first day of the road trip, and I could use some expert advice.

First symptom was the engine cut out intermittently... a bad miss. The engine stopped when I pushed in the clutch as I was pulling over. It restarted but ran badly, and I heard a new noise in the back of the car which sounded like the fuel pump but louder than it was before. After running badly for a minute or two (while parked), it finally stopped altogether. Current symptoms:

                                - Cranks well but won't start
                                - No trouble codes
                                - No noise at all from the fuel pump, even after not running for a couple of hours
                                - The two 10A fuel pump fuses are good
                                - No fuel leak or fuel smell from the pressure regulator

I can't check fuel pressure, but I think there's a good chance this is fuel pump failure: performance issues could be from fuel starvation, plus I can't hear the pump anymore. It could also be a completely clogged filter... it's original to the car (I know, I know- I should have replaced it before travel).

Unless I get a better idea, I'm considering finding a way to get a fuel pump and the tools needed to install it. It's an easy R&R on C4 and might get me going tomorrow. The fuel filter looks like a bear to replace because it's tucked behind the right catalytic converter.

What do you think? Anything else I can check with no tools?

The car and I are at a motel in Tiona, PA, a small town with few services. Nearest car parts stores are 8 miles away; some are open tomorrow (Sunday before the 4th). Nearest repair shops are also 8 miles away but not open until Tuesday.
