    Staples

Does anyone know of a source for plain steel staples, e.g. for A-arm flaps? It seems like all the vendors I checked offer stainless or magnetic stainless. I want neither. I want old fashion, plain steel that will quickly develop an aged patina.

If you can't find them, they are easy to make.

I found it easier to make them from tig rods - a piece of scotch brite will knock the light copper plate off, then use a pair of pliars with the correct width jaws. Bend one leg with the pliars grab the width bend the other side of the rod 90 deg - clip off staple - start over.

          Gary,

Refer to the similar thread below "C2 Dust Shield Staples" that I submitted last year. They are pretty easy to make. Repros are typically stainless steel and will not pass judging. I got some from Paragon and never used them.

            Terry,

I wouldn’t be surprised if the magnetic stainless staples that some vendors sell will indeed pass judging. But I want staples that will develop a patina that the stainless will not develop.

I would agree that stainless staples are not typical for production, however, I wouldn't say they won't pass judging.

BTW, I should have mentioned how the SS wire I used was magnetic. When I was working, I had great access to lots of different kinds of wire. Not no more...

In all honesty a judge should not be using a magnet , just saying....

                  Gary,

True, But some still do. The newer version of magnetic stainless staples will pass the magnet test, as shown by the example on the Long Island Corvette website.

Gary, I just took a pocket or small flat blade screwdriver an bent them back, and reused the old ones.I had zero problems used a 1/16 in drill and place the flap in place where you want it and used the old holes.

                      Edward,

I have some of my original staples currently soaking in Evapo-Rust to see how they will come out.
