Hello All
Since we are covid bound and staying home. I thought I would post a Question on my 71 454 auto
Working on my 71 auto 454 after 6 years of sitting after it got painted and yes warbonnet lacquer and finally I have put on all the bumpers and grills etc and now looks like a car.
Brake booster issues as the Clevis is short or the rod is short. It will not engage the white switch when brake pedal is released.
Brake booster if I recall should be original I took it off and repainted. 0 241 A 9092
My 71 is a Feb or March car.
I had to take off the booster to install the Vacuum tank. which the painter neglected to install.
Installed the Brake booster...you know how hard that is and being 60 it was hell!!!!
So I look under the steering column and the little thin bracket is not engaging the switch.
Picture 1 and you can see the clevis pin will bolt through the brake pedal slot
Picture 2 - I had to pull up the brake pedal and it will then engage the switch but the Clevis will not fit in the brake pedal hole as it is approx 1/2 inch short and I can't pull the rod any further out.
Picture 3 You can see an NOS brake booster on the right and my so called original Booster on the left. Both rods extend the same length and I tried to unscrew the rod out but can't figure out how to do it.
Picture 4 On the bottom left I have a rod and Clevis from a 72 and I thought I would take out the rod from my old booster and see if this 72 rod will work as you can see it has some adjustment to make it longer?? but I dont know how to take the rod out from my booster
So the next alternative is on ebay there is a 3 inch Clevis 3" Black Fork Style Clevis #381526631249
That I can maybe install and call it a day. The factory GM Clevis is 2 1/4 inch long
Or the alternative is for me to weld a plate on each side of the GM clevis and extend the hole 1/2 inch.
Any suggestions and again I appreciate your help in advance
Thanks, Grant
