66 windshield post and hinge pillar

On my 66 conv. windshield post and hinge pillar there is a black material on the back side (side that meets the windshield pillar) of the SS retainer. i assume that it is BLACK weatherstripping adhesive. if so, do i use the same on the other side where the weatherstrip gets adhered to the inside of the retainer?
    Thanks

Use 3M strip caulk (the black sticky stuff) on the back side of the retainer. One strip should do it, it will squeeze flat when you tighten the screws, remove any excess that squeezes out. Use weatherstrip adhesive on the flat lower part of the weatherstrip where it attaches to the cowl. Optionally you can use a small amount in the retainer channel as well, but I do not. I find that the retainer will hold the weatherstrip in place just fine when it is properly tucked into the recesses on the edges of the retainer. Last note, a bit of strip caulk in the corner between the pillar and cowl under the weatherstrip corner will also greatly aid water sealing.
