door lock cylinder

When I took my door lock cylinder out, I left the rod in the lock mechanism. I was a tough job but i did it. Now that the car is painted, i tried to re install the cylinder and can not attach the rod. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately there were no replies to my original post,so can anyone tell me how to get the rod off of the locking mechanism on the door lock.

Ed I think the issue is that even with the lower clip removed, you can't swing the rod into position to the lock cylinder lever.

I can't recall on C2's but on C1's that rod must be connected to the lock cylinder before installing the assembly into the door. You cant get the rod on or off the cylinder lever from inside the door. I think the same issue on C2's. Unless I'm thinking of the C1 door handle levers??

Jack posted this photo in another thread but shows the rod with the special hooked end which attaches to the lock cylinder.
