C1 Seat Differences

Can someone help describe how I can tell the differences in the seat frames between the different years. I have a 1956 and bought a used set of seats and want to make sure the frame part is correct before I go any further with them. They look like they have been recovered as the covers do not match any of the designs for repro seat covers.

Sheldon, not sure I can help, I have you bookended, I have a 54 and a 58 and the seat frames are considerable different. I would assume your 56 is more like the 58 as it incorporates a seat frame in which the cushion frame set. The 54 does not (on the passenger side). I'll attach a photo of the underside of my 58 seats.

I was always under the impression that '56 - '60 seat frames were interchangeable. Others may have better information.

I believe 56 thru 58 are the same and 59 thru 62 are the same - but the two series are different. Parts suppliers list them that way.

59 thru 62 are not the same. 59-60 are like 56-58 and are two separate pieces that attach to a frame already bolted to the car, while 61-62 are alike and are two pieces bolted together without a separate frame.

You are correct - I'm just so used to lumping the 58 thru 62 together I wasn't paying attention to what I typed.
