    1964 FI repro foam filters

Hi all, have been using the repro FI foam filters for about 12 years now, was cleaning one of my two filters and it was starting to crumble on outside. I wash them in soap and water and put K&N filter oil spray on them. Spare one was good, what do you guys recommend for cleaning and oiling of the repro filters? Thanks,
    Dan

Those foam air filters have poor filtration quality compared to a modern cellulose filter. I know there's a modern Ford truck filter that fits and filters much better. Off hand I don't recall the part number, but I'm sure it's been mentioned on the TDB.

My recommendation is the same for the foam carburetor filters of the same era. Have one for judging, but run a cellulose filter if you drive the car. This may not be and issue with FI because I don't think the filter is inspected during judging.

Dan, I have told many 100's is not 1000's about the air cleaner element to use in a '63-'65 fuel injection cannister.
Go to NAPA and ask for a 6418 element.
Or go to your Ford dealer and ask for a Motorcraft FA 1632. They are paper elements so the FI will breath better. No oil dripping out of the cannister. Forget NOS ones please. You haven't lived until you have to redo an FI unit because the element came apart in pieces and trashed the air meter, etc.
Cost is around less than $25.00 with a discount. Remove the wire mesh cone and put it on the shelf as they are no longer needed. Cones and the retainer are things of the past.
The element is for a late 90's Ford product.

Thanks for comments, I have a 6418 paper element bought awhile ago, it's a little short but wedges up into cannister and seats, will it slide back or do I have to use a spacer? The repro foam one lasted 12 years and over 25K miles, spare looks good still. Paper one runs good, had to lower idle speed after installing it, FI likes it!
