Wally: You should see several there. Look around before you buy, and stop by to see the gang from Waterford at G1-G3.

Wally, since you said NICE and above driver quality, I woud think an unrestored frosted set without dings is somewhere between $500 and $750. Just as a reminder a reproduction set of bars and spinners is about $800. Even if you restored a set yourself your starting cost is the stainless and the labor to remove the dings and scratches and to polish. A restored set of frosted must be in the area of $1300.

          Harry has it right Wally....

The problem is nobody wants to hardly restore these hubcaps -- last price I got was $300 per cap...
Its hard as the dickens to get the dings out of the curved circumference so yeah, not cheap....

I have a set of frosted platters on the shelf if nothing else - if you could find somebody to restore them...

            Wally,

There are four different designs of 63 Hubcaps. Which one corresponds to your 63? I have approximately 20 63 hubcaps and probably not a good one in the bunch. All need the bumps and bruises fixed. Don't know anyone that's an expert on removing those bumps from the rims of a 63 hubcap. Good luck at Carlisle.

I have seen Andy Cannizzo's restored '63 "wheel covers" and they are perfect. He's able to remove all the dings. John

I haven't seen anything Andy does that isn't perfect....
He restored three 63 shifter consoles for me and sold me a set of date-coded, correct 63 horns...

I did not know he did the hubcaps....I think he also does rocker covers though - the right way too...

I would like to know his process of removing dents that on the outside of cap. As we all know the edge of the cap is metal on top of metal. Only way to remove dent that I know of is cut inside metal off where the dent so you can hammer the dent out or beat the inside metal until it hits the outside dented metal to remove. Either way sounds scary.

                    Wally,

I have a set of frosted caps that were not correct for my late 63. I ended up getting restored inner caps and swapping the fins and spinners. If you are local to northern NJ you are welcome to stop by and take a look. They are in very good shape and probably don't need any work whatsoever (in my opinion). You would need new spinners and fins of course but those items are hard to restore anyway. Sent you a PM.

I remember being at Bloomington Gold in 1990 and a vendor had about 10 20-Gallon trash cans. Each can held nothing but '63 Hubcaps, stacked to the top. Probably around a 15 or so hubcaps to a stack.

I went through every can and every cap and couldn't find a single '63 cap that hadn't been dinged hard on the edge.

Made a big impression on me to think how many cars had been parted out or wheels changed out to produce that much surplus.

I have a set of 4 currently hanging in my garage just for wall art - all with dings.

Andy isn't really "free" with his process information - sorta proprietary I think.....I've asked about his process to produce 63 date coded horns and he deferred.... There is a reason the restoration costs are so high.... I haven't studied the back of my restored set of wheel covers to try to determine the technique but I prob could...

I know the restored covers go on my Corvette Specialties reproduction 63 wheels like a dream....all the drama, bruised palms, dings and nerve-wracking pounding with a mallet are no more.....just a few sharp raps with a fist in a workout padded glove and its done..

thanks for all of your input. from what i can tell, 63 caps are not dime a dozen. leaving for Carlisle next week in the hunt for a set of caps.
sure they wont be cheap, but won't be first time biting a bullet. will report after Carlisle what the real story is finding a set of caps and
the going prices. should be interesting. stay tuned. again thanks for all your input and advice...hope next time the 63 is out will be
without its knockoffs....funny thing, when these cars were delivered to the dealers, they were all hubcap cars... today as you all know
knockoffs seem to be the norm...on most of them.. stay tuned Wally
