1955 12V Fuses - beware of LectricLimited instructions

If you buy a 12V fuse kit from LectricLimited for a 1955 the instructions will tell you to use a 14 amp fuse in all three applications in the fuse panel. That is incorrect.

My guess is they got their information from the 54-55 Owner's Manual. But they are not aware that the Owner's Manual does not cover 55 12V applications or even any data for V-8 engines. The Owner's Manual is for 6V, 6 cyl cars only. It is correct that 14 amp fuse are used everywhere in the 6V cars.

The correct fuses for 12V 1955 Corvettes are same as for 56-59:

    AWG 7 1/2 amp - radio
SFE 9 amp - parking brake
    SFE 14 amp - heater

You will need a vintage 9 amp fuse as the currently available fuse is too long to fit into the prongs on the accessory fuse panel.

BTW in examining unrestored 55s I've noticed that every fuse panel I've found was wired incorrectly. But it all works as long as the wires attached match up with the fuses, regardless of what position they are installed in. As an example, if you put the wire and fuse for the heater in the power top position the heater will still work fine.
