    Wiring problem inmy 57

I put all new wiring in my 57 and now have a problem. I put in a complete set from LL. Installed by their instructions after leaving a small piece of the original so I could cross reference. Colors were good and everything matched and worked like it is suppose to EXCEPT the temp gauge and fuel gauge peg to the right when I turn on the key.
LL tech was no help and I am hoping someone here can offer a suggestion. The gauges worked properly before the change. The temp gauge pegs even when it is disconnected from the engine sensor.
Am I looking for "stray voltage" at the gauge cluster? Could it be a grounding problem?
Fortunately I have the seats out of the car but I am getting tired of crawling under the dash and tonight will be another Tylanol night.

    Pat,

It may be one of 2 things....

1- Make sure the Pink IGN power wires are on the Right terminal post on each gauge, as viewed from the rear. The Left terminal is SENDER wire. The cardboard insulators are marked. Hard to see but above each terminal, left is marked SENDER, right is marked IGN. On the Fuel Gauge, a red cardboard warning label is on the SENDER terminal, to NOT Connect Pink Power Wire there.

2- Your gauge pod metal case is not properly grounded. IIRC a small Ground wire attaches to the Pod case. The Ground comes from a wire in the harness which connects to a Stud on the metal dash reinforcement near the Headlamp Switch. This Ground comes from a Black/WHite wire which connects to the Engine Ground at a Valve Cover attaching screw. I also recall another Ground wire from the harness connect to the Cowl Vent Brace Stud in the engine bay at the firewall, which iirc is also a ground for the Wiper Motor. (All this from memory so I may have some wrong)

As I get older and maybe dumber, I have to admit that lying on my back under the dash things can get fuzzy. I wired the temp sensor to the fuel gauge and the fuel gauge to the temp gauge. Now we know what happens, both gauged pig and you really feel dumb when you realize what you did!
