    c3 Half shafts

I just had my half shafts redone and put them back on the car. I Took it for a drive hear clunking sound when slowing down and when I hit a bump. No vibrations or noise when driving, It almost sounds like the muffler or pipe through cross member. I checked and looked at it when the car is sitting and checked for rattles.. Puzzled?

Mark, its a pretty cut and dry job, rechecking your bolts and clamps is all I can think of. it could be possible that one of the stub shafts in the rear diff. is pulled away, due to a C-clip internally broke, this will sometimes cause the stub shaft to hit the cross shaft that holds the spider gears. when the rear suspension is off the ground and the shocks are removed this causes the axles to pull downward on the stub shafts and can pull the clip away. the only way to check can be to put car on lift or stands rear wheels hanging and remove lower nut from each shock and check to see it if the shaft is pulled away.

      Mark,

Take a look at the u bolts that attach the u joints to the stub axle to see if the thread is hitting the rear housing.
