Does Barrett Jackson authenticate matching #'s on cars where the sellers say they're matching #'s?

Re: Barrett Jackson & Matching #'s
You'll have to first come up with a definition of 'matching numbers' that all involved parties understand and agree upon. Not trying to be a smart as* but that's a meaninglessness term these days.- Top

Re: Barrett Jackson & Matching #'s
Agreed, but Barrett Jackson and the sellers are making more money on each vehicle using the term "matching #'s", so doesn't BJ have an obligation to authenticate if the term matching #'s is correct?- Top

Re: Barrett Jackson & Matching #'s
All that term means is that the VIN number on the trim tag matches the VIN number on the engine block pad and the transmission, etc. It doesn't mean that those parts are original to that car. Many (most) numbers matching car parts are re-stamps...but, they match!! A better term (if you're looking for originality) is "original, born with engine, trans, etc".Last edited by Leif A.; January 19, 2017, 07:52 PM.Leif

I'm sure that you will more than 1 disclaimer in the contract disavowing ANY auction company responsibility. Roy's employment and the validation of any claimed NCRS awards, etc., probably go beyond what other auction company's do.- Top

Bj Buyers will eventually wise up to this. But if they don't, well, who cares. When they go to sell it then they will learn.- Top

Was at Mecum auction in Kissimmee last week and spoke to Roy Sinor at his office regarding a Corvette in the auction. He took time out of his day and gave me solid advice....an absolute wealth of knowledge and a class act.1963 Corvette: Flight Judging Award (Top Flight) at 2023 Ontario NCRS Regional Meet (Regional) at 09-14-2023

Guys, The latest "buzzword" at BJ is "period correct" engine, not be the engine or HP that the car was born with, but was an engine made in the same year as the car. "SAM" Smoke & Mirrors, & What Rick said!

Well, you can call it lots of things, but the important thing is that the buyer fully and completely understands what they are buying. If that happens, all should be well, no matter what anyone else thinks, it is their choice.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Barrett Jackson & Matching #'s
My two favourite descriptions of matching numbers
1) the VIN tag numbers match the pink slip numbers
2) the seller's offer matches what the buyer will accept.- Top

Re: Barrett Jackson & Matching #'s
I thank you all for your responses. The reason this issue came up is I found a car on ebay that boasts "matching #'s" so I had one of our NCRS brothers have a look at it. His response was, "take a pass on this car" because the engine stamp looked a little funny. Now I've looked at this engine stamp 10 times and don't see anything wrong with it but then I'm not that experienced with C2 corvettes yet. So now moving forward I was thinking of the Barrett Jackson Auction in Palm Beach because I could probably find an NCRS brother to help me out at that auction. Thoughts???- Top
