    Caliper options

What is the best results on caliper purchasing? Who has the complete kit to rebuild with quality seals? Are pitted pistons reusable? Are the phenolic as good as the original steel?

    Frank------

I think that any of the major caliper rebuilders can supply quality rebuilt calipers or components thereof. Among these are Lonestar Caliper, Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation, Vette Brakes, Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes and more.

The critical part of the piston is the major diameter. If there is ANY deterioration of this area, including even wearing through of the hard anodize, you must replace the piston(s).

I don't know what you mean in your last sentence. No original Corvette pistons were either phenolic or steel. 65-E67 and L67-75 with J-56 used pistons with phenolic INSULATORS but the pistons for all 1965-82 were aluminum.

The pistons I am referring to are made out of a phenolic material. Not steel or aluminum!

Yes that is the one that's leaking after a year. I normally rebuild them myself but when shopping for the fronts ( Pistond seals) they were quite expensive. Now I will rebuild the fronts with Joes leed on other manufactures. When we had a manufacture here in Portland Ct it was $15.00 for a complete caliper. Since we drove all our manufactures out of this country we have to buy there inferior products. The DEP did not help either in Ct

I have never seen any Corvette brake piston made of phenolic material. Certainly, no original piston was so constructed. All original Pistons were hard anodized aluminum.
