    Yet another C2 Horn Rebuild

    Hello,

I've rebuild my C2 horns armed with the Restorer Article from 2000 (I think), and the kit from LIC. They are in primer and bolted together at the moment, though I've made an anvil to reproduce the waffle pattern and install the rivets. Before I button this up I have a question and need some oppinions.

Though the car has been in the family for 25 years, I don't think I ever hear the horn and if I did, I wasn't listening with a critical ear!. I've adjusted them for max volume and amperage draw, so they work and are loud. However, in addition to that nice clear note, there is a buzz. Maybe that buzz isn't noticeable from 25 feet with the engine running, but on a quiet work bench I hear it as part of the sound. Thinking about the way horns work, I assume it's the sound of the diaphragm hitting the metal that disengages the points as designed. I've tried it with the original cleaned up diaphragm as well as the new one from the kit with the same results.

All surfaces were made perfectly flat using sandpaper and marble stone I use for sharpening hand planes and I've taken my time to dress the points and make sure they are 100% reliable. I'm also aware of the three names that are often recommended if I want to send out the horns, but this is just more interesting. Plus I had zero horns last week and now I have working ones that will allow me to pass inspection and drive:-)

So, after all of that, is that buzz behind the note normal? If not, how does one eliminate it?

    Thanks all.
