Car starts in neutral

Hi. I have a 75 Corvette that I am restoring. The entire electrical system and battery has been replaced. The car wasn't running before that and since then only starts in neutral. This is my first C3 to restore. Is this normal or does something else need to be replaced on the car. I'm almost outside my warranty on the electrical system so I need to know if this is the problem or whether it is something else. Thanks Eddie Robin

Automatic or manual transmission?? If an automatic, either the neutral safety switch is the issue or the linkage needs to be adjusted. By the way, what warranty are you speaking of??

Sorry. Car is an automatic. I have one year warranty on electrical system from service station that completed the work. Thanks for your help. Eddie

Do you mean it starts only in neutral and not also in park?

Eddie, The same switch contacts are used as an interlock in both Park and Neutral positions. With that in mind you probably have an issue with the linkage actuating the switch and it needs adjustment.
