81 corvette paint question

Does anyone know whether the factory was using clear coat on the paint work coming out of the St Louis plant? Thank you for any help you can provide.

As far as I know, the St. Louis plant only painted acrylic lacquer (no clear), while the BG '81s were all acrylic enamel base and clear coat.

would you know whether the dealer would offer to clear the car at the dealership as part of a new 81 purchase? Also I have seen discussions about an 81 Stripe kit. My car is pinstriped and I would like to know if that work is factory, dealer or after market.

Not sure what a dealer would do on clear coat, it is a pretty involved job long after the car is painted and assembled. The BG tu-tones had stripes separating the colors, but I don't think the St. Louis monotone cars had any pinstripes, so must have been dealer or aftermarket installed.
