C2 Hood Hinge Mounting Bolts - I need longer ones

I need longer bolts on one side to get my hood to align with the fender. We are having to use spacers to the point that the available bolts (7/8") with correct configuration are not long enough.

The hood mounting bolts per the TIM&JG are recessed head with a capture washer and headmarks "B&H", "RBW" and "E".

Paragon sells bolts as described that are 5/16-18 and 7/8 inch long with "E" headmarks. Looking at LIC, Corvette Central and ZIP all seem to sell the same bolts.

Anyone know of a source for longer bolts that have a correct configuration?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don,
Contact Anchor Screw and Bolt, they are still in business. But having correct type bolts is only part of the problem on the judging field. Too many shims is not typical and judges should deduct. It will also clue them in to look for collision damage or improper fender/inner splash installation.

You could try contacting Rich Fortier he advertises in the driveline and sells original bolts. They did make that style bolt at 1 1/4" long and that would probably work for you. I had the same problem on my car.

Not due to damage. The car is in bare glass and the only panel that has been replaced is the right fender, and the multiple shims are on the left side. How many shims is to many?

the car is with my body and paint guy. It fit better before I pulled the body. I'm still trying to figure out what could have caused this. He has been working to make sure the hood fits good. The hood had some issues that he had to fix, but nothing he did should have cause this.

FWIW, did you check to see that you have the correct number of shims for the body bolts at the core support?

I believe those shims are tack welded in place, at least they were on 65's.

Yes, but I have seen a few that have come loose when a body is pulled.

Re: C2 Hood Hinge Mounting Bolts - I need longer ones

I don't believe the front shims would cause my issue. The hood mount and part of the inner fender and where the inner fender is glued to the hood surround. According to my body guy, the only way to fix (i.e. reduce the number of shims) is to break the bond between the surround and the inner fender and reposition these.

I don't want to spend the money or time to do that.

One other possibility is I did change the hood hinges. The originals had been chrome plated by some previous owner. I bought a set from LIC. I'm going to take the originals and compare them to the reproductions next week.

By the way, I did find correct configured (or at lease per the TIM&JG) bolts. They are recessed head, "E" head mark, 1 3/16". The bolts all the suppliers sell are 7/8"

If you need longer than original bolts to secure the hood hinge something in not correct. They (GM) would not have custom selected bolts of varying length to complete the hood mounting/alignment. Look close it sounds like there is miss position of the inner fender.

The car is at the paint and body guys shop and is 50 miles away. I'm going out next week. He called me earlier today with some explanation causing the problem. He compared the LIC repro hinges on my car to and original off a 67 he has in the shop. He says the repro is at least 1/8" lower than the original.

im taking my originals out to compare. I may need to find a chrome shop that will de-chrome my originals.

You should be able to bead blast the chrome and achieve a rough enough surface that will accept paint. IMO de-chrome is not necessary.

Black beauty should cut the surface if the glass bead is still too smooth.
