Page, interesting, my friend/restorer thought they might have kept the armoring on big blocks because the bolt on the stabilizer bar link is so close to the line.
Thats what I assumed the reasoning was.

The 1966-79 trailing arm brake lines were the same-----GM #3879235, 3879236. So, someplace along the way, the parts must have been revised to drop the armor. The 1965 brake lines were different----GM #3876501, 3876502.

In any event, the 1965-66 armored and 1967-79 non-armored lines are functionally interchangeable. So, if you want to use armored lines on a 1967, you could use the ones sold for 1965-66. Personally, I prefer the armored lines regardless of year.

By the way, does anyone know why the 1965-79 brake lines will not work on a 1980-82? Let's see if anyone can come up with the answer to this "trivia question".
OK, 2 days and no bites on the trivia question. You have tickled my curiosity as I can't see why there would be a reason to change the design for '80. Are you ready to share?

For 1980-82 the fittings on the lines (and the calipers) changed to metric.

          Joe,
Must be a surprise to those '80-'82 owners who buy the aftermarket replacement lines I see advertised to fit 65-82. Was there a wholesale metric conversion on the '80 car or was it limited to just certain fasteners?

Interesting, as the catalogs all sell one size brake line for 65-82, with spiral armor being the only option.

1978-82 was a period of "phase-in" for metric on Corvettes. However, the vast majority of the parts were standard SAE. It just so-happened, though, that Delco-Moraine was in the "forefront" of the metric conversion.

I think the metric and SAE thread size for these fittings are close enough that either will work.

The late 1980-82 bleeder valves were also metric. Originally, these were GM #18003151 and of metric size 8mm X 1.25.
