    64 Hood release T handle

As I am installing my hood latches after the engine bay has been refinished along with the body, I make it all the way to the T handle under the dash board. It's an ugly mess, so I have removed all the old chipped paint. Once I paint it with Semi-gloss black, along with the bracket, how do I replace the white lettering that reads "HOOD RELEASE"? Smear white paint then wipe it? Any tips?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Exactly. You could use a white marker too like a metal marker. Let the black dry well first tho.

Get yourself a lacquer stick --- heck get two -- one for the parking brake handle.
They work a LOT better than trying to brush white paint on, clean it off, then clean too much off, repaint, etc..

        Greg,
I stripped and repainted the numbers and lines of my 4 speed shift pattern plate. While the hood release handle is plastic vs aluminum, I would suspect that the technique I used would work as well. I sprayed the plate black and waited just a bit - about 45 seconds - enough for the paint in the depressions to hold a bit. Then I took a new plastic food scraper and just pulled it over the plate. It effectively squeegeed the paint off the high surfaces and left paint neatly in the depressions. I still had just small traces of black paint on a few high spots - I got these off by lightly rubbing the plate against a piece of cotton cloth that was damp with acetone. Actually, I had the cloth spread tightly on a table and place the plate face down on it and moved the plate back and forth twice with very light pressure. Came out perfect.
