Does anyone have a source for the correct acorn nut and washer for 63-67 decklid trim. Al Knoch comes close by design, but it is 3/8", need correct size for the original trim 5/16"?

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
Does anyone have a Parts Book "Group #" for the vinyl strip & its attachments? I would note that it does NOT get illustrated in the AIMs, which according to "standard interpretation" is supposed to mean that it was installed "somewhere else" - which is not true.- Top

Harry,
Do the nuts look like the ones on the right side. Al Knock's are on the left.
And only for $100.00 each you can have a set. You want me to bring them to Florida or FedEx them to you now.
Paypal is OK!!!!!!!

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
I believe the studs on the trim are 6-32 sized and the replacements like Knoch are 8-32. I replaced my original and have the nuts. Not sure were the 5/16" comes in, but the diameter of a 6-32 bolt is 0.138 and the 9/64" is 0.140.
Woops, I just looked again at the link, those are listed as Push Nuts. The originals I have actually screw onto 6-32 sized machine thread screws.Last edited by Donald H.; December 2, 2015, 08:17 PM.Don Harris

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
Here is another possible source.... I don't have a convert, so I don't need them, but a trip to Home Depot for a selection of sizes, might be the thing to do.....they aren't very expensive......

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
Don, these nuts are basically thin metal and probably were pushed on and screwed off...... A good test would be to purchase a 6/32 screw and one of these nuts and test 'em in the Home Depot parking lot. Total cost about $2....... and then you'll know for sure and can report back here.
I doubt the originals have actual "threads" but just a single metal edge that is shaped to follow a typical screw thread...- Top

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
Is there an aftermarket source for the vinyl trim that accepts the original nuts? I kept my nuts and washers from 30 years ago when I replaced my original trim piece. Wasn't smart enough to keep the original trim. I could likely have swapped out the studs by taking the trim staples out. Do all repro trim pieces use the larger nuts?
thanks

Re: Acorn nuts for 62-67 deck lid trim??
Don is correct. I have an original deck lid trim and a newer Al Knock. The studs are different sizes as described by Don above. The originals will not fir on a replacement trim piece. The 5/16 comes from the measurement across the flats (wrench size).
