Going to rebuild a 1964 WCFB carburetor. What would be a good quality kit. Also, there's a good you tube video showing Mike's carburetor how to rebuild AFB carburetor. Anyone find a your tube video for WCFB, thanks.

The DAYTONA FLOAT VALVE was designed to prevent your carburetor from flooding, caused by dirt, rust, excess fuel pressure, etc.

Be careful - there are 18 screws in the top lid; of three different lengths - don't mix them up or you'll strip holes on reassembly - use this picture on a piece of cardboard to store the screws in their proper positions.Attached Files- Top

Couple of other tips -- there are hair thin, spring "keepers" wrapped around the top of the metering rods to make sure they stay on the "T" hanger. Do NOT lose those - they are made of unobtanium. If you lose one you'll be very unhappy. Sometimes those metering rods have small metal washers around them where they go into the air horn lid -- down in the bottom. Same, same -- do NOT lose those if they are there.
Finally, make sure that little piston in the choke housing works smoothly. They sometimes get carbonized and prevent proper choke "pull off" and contribute to over-rich conditions and rough idle. In severe cases take a gun bore cleaner brass brush and some Hoppe's #9 gun cleaning solvent and scrub the snot out of the chamber -- that will do it.
If your WCFB has experienced the "stall on left turn" issue (quite common) let me know and I'll post the fix for that....otherwise don't worry about it....- Top

According to Dayton web site kit #327 is for 4 cylinder engines. Did you mean kit #331- Top

OK, I thought you were talking about your 63. According to Dayton web site, for a 63 or 64 carb I would use kit # 331.- Top

We have just taken the carb apart. It does not have the small metering rod discs that you spoke of. What is the purpose of them. It looks like they might cover the hold in the air horn that the metering rod goes through. IF so it is not a tight cover so still unclear as their purpose. And can I just buy some very small washers that will do the same thing. Can you tell me about what the outside diameter of them are, thanks- Top

If you don't have them I wouldn't worry about them; two of my WCFBs do and one does not. Bob Kunz (master WCFB builder) explained to me that they were to prevent fuel backslosh and on race cars he has put as many as 4 of the washers on each rod. Street driven cars do fine with or without them... I don't know the outside diameter but they are very small...smaller than the smallest ones from Ace Hardware (I've tried to source them and gave up). You could grind down a small washer but prob not worth the trouble...
Not all WCFBs have them 55 Chevy passenger cars did; many Corvette carbs do not but sometimes they have been added...here is a page from a '55 Chevy WCFB Carb manual... If you have clone carbs you may well have the discs...Attached FilesLast edited by Frank D.; June 24, 2015, 10:45 PM.- Top
