Re: early 396 head bolt markings
Oil Pam Bolts...side rail the flat head U w/captured star washer 5/16-18. These bolts were used on 409's and 348's so I would expect to see them on early 65's being switched over to recessed hex head bolts w/ B&H, Anchor, RBW, NL, EL and a few more. Front oil pan bolts to timing chain cover had 3 bolts all 1/4-20 the 2 outer had either captured lock, star or small flat washers, the center bolt used a large thick captured conical washer. Headmarking of EL, ELH, Anchor and a few more. Intake manifold 2 most common flat head A flanged, and recessed head FP Not as common flat head CP with flange. Spark Plug Heat shield bolts most common are B&H. Exhaust manifold, A, F, N, C. Motor mount to block bolts, Anchor over tee + under tee, RBW, B&H and E. Fuel Pump to block. E, RBW, RSC. Fuel pump rod plug some have a L stamping. Timing cover, inspection cove...most common EL + ELH in 2 or 3 circles. Motor mount to frame stand bolts F in a circle and UR are common. Water pump to block, TR, M, RSC, C, RBW. Crank pulley to balancer bolts, C, TR, RBW, M. Balancer to crank shaft, P, S, and a few more These are just some!!!- Top
