    Re: 54 carbs/rich

Hi Jim and all... I got my 3/3 metering rod's and jet's and installed them in the 54. It took several attempt's to start due to no gas in bowl's. Once started car idled nice and smooth. I took a 20 minute cruise up the highway and back home. checked all plug's and they were fine. Next morning was curious as to how it would start. It did start with less crank's which is nice. I made no adjustment's but float drop at 2 3/8 on all three carb's. What might I do to get a quicker start? Thank you, Brad.

      Brad,

I'm really glad to learn the new metering parts seem to have solved the rich condition. I was pretty sure they would.

As to quick starting, well "quick" is relative. The practical answer is you do what ever seems to work best for your car.

My cold-engine starting technique is the essence of simplicity:

      1. Pull choke all the way out.

      2. Turn the key.

      3. At the instant the engine starts, push choke all the way in.

I do this whether the engine has been sitting for 1 day or 1 year.

However, if the engine has been sitting for a relatively long time, I do crank for a few seconds and then pause while the starter cools. I sometimes have to do this two or three times if the bowls are completely dry when I begin.

The one thing I NEVER do is pump the accelerator. Doing so will flood the engine instantly and, wow, I'll have to get a helper battery because I'll be cranking a long time to get it cleared out.

      Hot starting is even easier:

      1. Turn the key

      Hope this helps.

      Jim

Jim, sound's pretty standard for these first year car's. Thank's again, Brad.
