40 year old tape on Hardtop Plexiglas

Does anyone have experience removing the "welded on" remnants of factory making tape glue on the rear window? I have a NOS rear window with multiple spots of old glue and am unsure how to remove it without using any type of abrasive. So far rubbing alcohol, naphtha, goo-gone, baby oil, denatured alcohol and mineral spirits have been applied. A few small spots were removed, but there are more that won't budge. I'm afraid to put anything stronger on for fear of softening the plexi or later crazing.

You might try 3M adhesive remover. That stuff works when others won't........ It doesn't affect paint so it may work on Plexiglas......

I just tried LPS PreSolve orange degreaser and it seem to be doing the trick. Saturated a small piece of cloth with it and let it cover the glue for a few minutes. Very gently rubbed the glue and a lot of it came off. A few more applications should do it.

And here I thought it was an instruction tape on how to take care of plexi - which I could use.

Hey Stu, Over the years I've used "Micro Mesh" cushioned abrasives to restore beat-up plexiglass. Great stuff if you need to get rid of bad spots. Not something I wanted to use on NOS glass though.

I use plain old Pledge Spray Wax on my motorcycle Plexiglas windshield. A motorcycle forum similar to this put me on to it. It could not take out a couple of old deep gouges but it sure cleaned up most of the windshield nicely. Now it is an '82 Honda so I was not too concerned with it having any ill affect on the plexi when I first tried it so do so at your own risk.

Try good old lemon juice. It is good on most sticky back labels. Follow with dish soap and water to get the juice off along with the rolled up glue.

Lemon juice may work on "fresh" sticky labels, but is useless on old, hardened glue. LPS Orange degreaser applied to a small, clean piece of cloth and let to stand overnight did the trick. A q-tip soaked in LPS and rubbed over the area afterwards removed the almost all of the glue.

I've used a plastic credit card with goo be gone with some success. It's the only time I've used a credit card and it didn't cost me anything.
