    71 LS5 Coil Wiring

Just want to check my sanity. I am seeing conflicting information as to which terminal, positive or negative, the distributor wire attaches to the coil. The 1971 Chassis service manual (fig 96, pg 12-68)and the NCRS 53-72 Electrical Wiring Diagrams manual(pg 50) show the distributor lead coming off of the positive side. However the NCRS manual shows it on the negative side in 1970 and 1972.

The 1971 AIM (UPC 12 D2)and the MBI Corvette 1966-82 Shop Manual (14-20)show the lead on the negative side.

I show the radio capacitor attaching to the positive side.

    Thanks for the input.

    Re: 71 LS5 Coil Wiring

The black wire from the distributor (points lead) goes to the negative (-) coil terminal, and the radio suppression capacitor connects to the positive (+) coil terminal, along with the ignition resistance wire and the bypass wire from the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid (assuming you have point ignition).
