The original steering wheel for 68 Corvettes was NOT teakwood. It was an imitation, woodgrain plastic wheel with stainless steel tri-spoke center. This was the ONLY steering wheel available for 1968 and was used on both standard as well as telescopic columns.
As far as restoration goes, I do not know of anyone who restores these wheels, but there may very well be someone out there who does. This wheel was discontinued by GM many, many years ago and, as far as I know, is not currently reproduced. Finding an NOS example would probably be as likely as the people in hell getting icewater.
