i only ran the car at club events where we rented the track and they did not give mph. the only thing they were using to determine the winner was ET.

AT LEAST! These cars were hard chargers, suffered some valve train problems/corrections but led the pack. Consider the #'s: 2XXX vs #3XXX - we must, however, disregard those cars built elsewhere that bring the numbers roughly to 5XXX '65's and XXXXX '67's (this number still growing......)Comment

yes they had valve train problems. i broke a valve spring on the way home from St Louis and i did not know what was causing the miss at idle till i got home. broke 2 after that, one on the way to myrtle beach. good thing i always carried tools and spare springs with me. after they came out with the new double spring there was no problems. the wire in the first spring was too stiff and caused the problem. good thing i had a contact at chevy to clue me in on what was happening and to supply me with new springs. the big problen in those days was the silver valve cover gaskets that they used with the adhesive on them that had to be scraped off every time you removed the covers and you had to install new ones.
