Let me try to tell you how it works! had many e-mails
1. As you turn the switch (dash) cable to on( top cable in the pic.) The cable coming from the washer foot pump (bottom cable in the pic.)with the square end and inner cable connected to the wiper motor slider will also go forward with it.
Now then when you turn the dash switch off the dash cable will pull the foot pump square end BACK at the same time turning off the wiper motor.
So with the Wiper motor ON ! Dash and foot pump square cable end is forward-Wiper motor OFF! Dash and foot pump square cable is backwards. (foot pump inner cable does not move)
2. Using foot pump ONLY ,foot pump inner cable only push's wiper motor on( while not moving the cable square end)
Plus pulls dash cable at the same time ( to slow speed) if you need the wiper motor running faster turn dash cable more to the right.
I hope this may help understand how things work.
3. Now if you have a weak dash cable while turning the wiper motor ON ( at the same time push on the foot pump as you turn dash switch on) both combined will make every thing work better.
4.The foot pump "only" will turn the wiper motor on but not off.
5.Foot pump cable square end at wiper motor "cable support" MUST be able to move back and forth freely.
6.53,55 and early 56 wiper motor all look the same,(top area) also early Chevy 55 car and truck first design.
