Pulled my '65 driver side wiper grille and the inside kick-panel grille and fresh air vent door assy. for general repair and cleaning of 40+ accumulated years of debris in the lower plenum. These wasps (?) were pretty clever; predators would have had to be smaller than the openings in either grille.
As I've owned the car since 1988, and it's always been garaged since then in northern climes, this had to have happened in the 200 mile zone of western Louisiana and eastern Texas, where it spent its first 22 years. Can't believe I haven't noticed it before now, after about 15K miles and 18 years. The next time I talk with previous owners, I'll narrow it down as to who was bitten. If it was post-1971, when the then owner installed an over-the-counter M22 he wouldn't have never heard them coming.
