Hi,
Recently I posted a question about the bonding paste for a 79. I had difficulties finding the right one here in Europe and could not get it brought over from the US. I wanted to know if I could make some myself.
Some of you said to mix epoxyresin with filler particles. So I did this with something they had readily available here : cottonfiber and glued a scrap panel together. This stuff applied more or less good (almost like filler)
I did the same thing but with an expoxy based filler (not polyester filler) that they had available.
The result : I could tear the panels with the resin and fibers apart, with only minimal damage to the laminate, so I'm thinking that the bonding was not all that good. The filler however bonded so good that tearing the panels apart meant that the laminate was destroyed and the bond intact.
Seems to me that the filler did its work better. Also it can be finished better than the resin substance.
Can I use the filler ? Normally everybody advises against it, but seen the fact that the laminate gets destroyed before the actual bond I would estimate that the bond is stronger. .. This should be a good thing right ?
Any input ?
Thanks
Yves
