    '68 Headlight Bezel

Does anyone know what an original headlight bezel goes for? I know they aren't made anymore (at least not the correct aluminum ones).

I think I saw one in the latest Driveline for around $175... Does that sound right?

    Thanks! Michael Hampson

    Michael----

I couldn't tell you what a fair price would be for an original, but the original 68-72 headlamp bezels were zinc die-cast, not aluminum. In 1973, they were replaced for PRODUCTION and SERVICE by similarly configured bezels of plastic construction.

By the way, the 1968 and 1972 bezels were the same; both were without holes for the "head lamp washer system" nozzles and were of the same part numbers. Any zinc die-cast(metal) bezels which you find without the nozzle holes will be correct for your car.

Re: Stupid 68 Headlight Bezel Follow Up Question

I've heard and read that in 68, 3 different headlight door sizes were used, each being about 1/4 inch bigger than the previous one. The final "size" was/is the normal size we're used to seeing. Does this mean that there are different sized headlight bezels to go with the smaller doors, or is just the top fiberglass smaller? Seemed like a good place to ask this question. Chuck

        Chuck-----

You're correct. For 1968 there were two different headlamp housing designs used (although you won't find this in the 1968 AIM). The first design was GM #3932935-left and GM #3932936-right. Sometime early in the model year, the design was changed and the part numbers became GM # 3938115-left and GM #3938116-right. These parts were thereafter used to the conclusion of C3 production in 1982.

I don't know exactly how these two designs differed, but it did not affect the size of the cover or the bezels used. The GM #3911143-left and GM #3911144-right were used on all 68s.
