Can anyone say for certain what the correct plating or coating finishes are on the 4spd Muncie shifter used on C1 T-10's? I'm referring to everything except the handle.
Mine had the normal crude and almost no corrosion. I've disassembled and cleaned the various parts in mild solvent, wirewheeled and then tumbled the smaller parts in a polishing media. Before I reassemble I'd like to freshen plated surfaces and coatings in an accurate fashion.
Can anyone comment, confirm, or correct me on the following finishes:
Mounting saddle: I believe this is nickel plated.
Main shaft: I believe this is also nickel plated.
Main spring: ??
Bolts: Zinc ??
Clevises: ??? maybe natural, maybe phosphated??
Linkage: ??? maybe natural, maybe phosphated??
If the linkage was coated I couldn't tell. Once cleaned and wire wheeled they appeared to be natural with no evidence of ever being coated. If that's the case I will use a suitable "clear coat" protective finish. The clevises appear as shiney polished, stamped or forged steel.
Anti rattle bracket: Zinc??
other associated hardware: ??
I don't think the shifter is judged below the tunnel. I just want to use accurate finishes where possible for reassembly and good protection from corrosion.
