Whether the coil is stamped B-R or BR is of no functional concern. It does mean that the coil has to be used with a ballast resistor. DO NOT PANIC. Even though it doesn't look like it - you have one.
Your 1971 has a resistance wire between the firewall bulkhead connector and the coil that takes the place of the ballast resistor that was mounted on the firewall of earlier Corvettes.
