had the 39 woody at an AACA national meet today(Judges and judging leaves a whole lot to be desired having grown old on the NCRS judging field). nonetheless, met a very interesting ex-GM exec who described how he was the main player in reissuing the 53-5 hubcaps in the early 70's. Name is Bob Sovis, was a member of john hitchens Classic Corvette Club and was invited to the Angolia meeting where the seven founding fathers of NCRS met to create our club.he declind the invitation to form NCRS but did join(and then quit--had a 54 vette back then). anyway, his job was to dispose of GM molds once they stopped offering parts over the counter for the old vettes. he said he came across a part # and recognized it as being the hubcap part #'s. since he needed 4 caps for his 54, he single-handedly saw to it that four seperate runs of 2000 caps each were reissued after being modified to not accept the flippers(thanks to ralph nader). i bought a set of the re-issused caps over the chevy counter in about 1972-4 era for about 90 bucks for all four. Bob said they cost GM 30 bucks per four and when his boss found out he'd taken it on his own to re-issue, he was first pissed then when Bob told him they'd tripled their investment, he cooled down. He remembered Amgwert, Foltz, Mortimer and the other founding fathers and said to give them his regards. mike
