Many restored C1's back seat cushions have a gap at the top area do to the foam worn out and when the repro. covers are installed tightly that also compresses the foam causing the cushion to be smaller so that they have a gap , some times a large gap.Repro springs or foam may not be correct also causing this condition. I don't know.
But I do know that they should be tight at the top having NO gap and the bottom are tight against the tunnel and close to the door on 53 to 55, I applie Vaseline to the top area to keep squeaking down when I'm sitting in my 55.I see that gap on many C1's were I could put my hand in and reach the soft top and never saw a judge point it out to the owner or deduct points.(I never seen a factory Pic. having a gap in the seat we're talking about, Some one show me a pic. of one having it.)
