63 convertible. The differential unit turns out to be an Eaton, not the orig B-W. I had large end play on both yokes; .05 on left, .11 on right. The yoke ends are in good shape (smooth on end, chamfer intact), and no apparent wear on the center pin. I have removed the clutch packs, but I'm not sure what to look for in inpecting them. They appear in good shape, i.e. no scoring, no ears broken off, some discoloration around the edges. The surfaces of the clutch plates have a cross hatch pattern machined into them, but are otherwise smooth with no surfacing material present. Is there a spec for clutch pack thickness ? If the clutches are ok, is it a matter of improper shims? The shims are .021 left and .027 right. I don't know how many miles are on the unit.
