    Lane,

In looking in the '63/'64 judging manual, it reads as follows. The VIN derivative stamping is located on the left side of the main case. Example: S119499 for VIN #30867S119499.

The assembly code is located on the right side: S= 3 speed built by Saginaw: P= 4 speed built by Muncie: W= 4 speed built by Warner. This isn't probably all the info you need, but since the my car isn't close by, I can't go and check the numbers at this moment.

      Lane,

I should have included this info in my first reply. The typical gear ratios and codes for the a 1964 365hp or a 375hp fuelie are as follows: 3.70:1(CD)was standard, optional ratios were 3.08(CJ), 3.36(CA), 3.55(CC), 4.11(CE) and 4.56(CF).

The rear differential assembly and rear cover came from the factory with a natural to black finish as cast, not painted with "cat blast" paint. The half shaft axles came from the factory as a natural finish extruded steel tubes welded to natural forged steel yokes.

        3867269 left
        3851325 right
        p0626 left

The main case (3851325) and tailshaft (3846429) numbers are correct, but I don't recognize the 3867269 number; the side cover should be 3831707. The P0626 says it was made on June 26th - does that make sense with your build date? You should see a derivative of your car's VIN number stamped vertically on the left side rear vertical rib of the main case.

          Re: C2 Correct Transmission?

          Lane:

As your L84 engine has a power band decidedly favoring the hi rev range, I believe that the most popular axle ratio would have been 4.11:1, with 3.70:1 being a close second. I do not have any actual production numbers though.
Driveshafts and half shafts should be natural steel. Trailing arms should be semigloss black.
