I'm finishing up the rebuild on my '64 steering column. I had to replace the tube portion due to two of the tangs being broken off and causing a loose condition. Reading my 63/64 NCRS judging manual it states that the entire '64 steering column tube, directional signal housing and steering wheel hub are to be painted a "low gloss" black and the support plate that the column tube passes through is painted a "semi-gloss" black. I painted the hub and directional housing with Krylon brand semi-flat black. When comparing the newly painted items with a portion of the original, unrestored portion of the steering column tube that was located under the dash neat the firewall, the original finish on the original tube has more of a glossy, satin finish. I used Rustoleum brand satin finish on the support plate and it looks okay.
What brand(s) of paint have been used that is close or closer to the correct color?
