    Modify Technical Forum usage

Suggest opening up Technical Forum utilization to ALL MEMBERS rather than current format that only allows judging chairman's to make entries. While this forum was born with good intentions and received high praise it appears obvious to me that it's usage is very limited and way too restrictive. The fact it just sits there with only 1 post and 1 thread should prove my point. To better serve and improve the flow of information for all classes, I would suggest this forum's usage be modified to allow any member to present solid technical information that may or may not be currently available or listed in judging manuals. The current Technical Discussion Forum should remain in place as is but would be more reserved for helping solve current everyday issues.

    David,

I believe you are referring to the TIMJG Errata Sheets. This is technically not a forum at all but a repository for the Judging Chairman to post any important changes or updates to the Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide.

All updates to these Guides are thoroughly vetted by the team leaders and others on the TIMJG teams who spend countless hours researching every item that is put in these guides.

We have a process that has been in existence for long time to submit any item that you feel needs to be corrected or added to the TIMJG to the National Judging Chairman. It will then be reviewed with the evidence that you provide and the evidence the Team Leaders and their teams have to determine if a change or addition needs to be made.

Corrections will end up in the Errata Sheets area. Additions or major changes will most likely be held until the next version of the TIMJG is issued.

I believe this issue was discussed in a recent Judging Chairman's column in the Restorer.

      Re: Modify Technical Forum usage

      John,
Thanks for responding to my April 29th thread. Yes, I was referring to the TIMJG "repository" which I mistook as a forum. My thought was not to clutter the discussion forum with judging manual questions and possible corrections but rather leave the current discussion forum open to answering technical questions and assistance for any individual who might be looking for help in repairing/restoring their car. As for the process that has been in existence "for a very long time" maybe it is time we take a long hard look at this procedure. In reviewing several of the latest Judging Manuals I found them to be far superior to much earlier editions (I was on 1st 56-57 Team) but unfortunately still not completely accurate and in some instances very wrong. Personally, I believe the process you refer to now in place is far too slow and cumbersome plus it is possible egos come into play if a manual has just been published and now is being questioned. Assuming errors are found and using the current system it could be years before the next edition is printed. Since many individuals consider the latest editions as the final written word I do not think we can afford to wait great lengths of time to make appropriate corrections. I fully realize team leaders and TIMJG teams spend countless hours researching BUT I also believe in this day of enlightenment and technology there are many other individuals and members (myself included) who have also spent an equal amount of time with possible access to sources not available to TIMJG teams. While the TIMJG repository is a good way to notify members of changes unfortunately not everyone avails themselves of this method. By opening this format to all members who might have something to contribute or question it would open discussion to all interested persons rather then to a select few. As the first step in making revisions to the latest editions I would suggest printing any corrections and mailing to any individual who has purchased the LATEST editions so they could be inserted immediately in loose leaf format. As you may recall the very first MASTER JUDGING MANUAL was set up this way.

Yes, I think it was discussed in the Restorer and I read it as these errata sheet were available to the membership. I would like to find the errata sheets for the 63-64 timjg, but can't tell from this discussion and what I read in the Restorer if they are available to me or not. If they are, how do I find them?
        Thanks.

          Jack,

To my knowledge Dave Brigham has posted all one Errata Sheet available in the Errata Forum. There is only the one sheet so I have to assume it is the only one available for any manual at this time.

The place to find any that are available is in the:Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide Errata Sheets forum.
